Do you like great coffee? Do you enjoy friendly service? Do you like ridiculously tasty bakery goods, made about 20ft from the counter they sit in? Then I'd say you should stop here...a lot. Not only is the coffee solid (as good or better than any shop in Abq), but the bakery stuff is what I could retire on (and presumably become quite fat on). Even tried a choc chip cookie that was not shabby at all, especially for only $1.50~ Finally, it's not just a coffee shop, but they have a full kitchen which pumps out some crazy good breakfast burritos, with REAL chile (really, this is new mexico, why doesn't every place use real chile....thank God Hwy 4 Cafe does!!!). Tasty but won't leave your mouth on fire...kinda like the goldilocks of breakfast burritos you could say. Oh, and for those technogeeks who can't be separated from their beloved devices, they have free wifi.....yes, you WILL have to leave the cafe at some point and go enjoy the mtns, but for the time being you may enjoy your coffee, wifi, & burrito.

This place used to be a complete joy. Now it is a complete disappointment. It changed hands sometime maybe a year or two ago and has completely collapsed in charm and quality. The food is now pedestrian at best and truly overpriced. The staff, particularly the large guy who bullies other employees and customers are disappointing and distract further from the experience. I you went in the early years when it was totally wonderful, with fabulous pastries and fascinating curries and homemade soups, stay away and cherish your memories. Interestingly they have posted a review in their window that says about the exact same thing I am here. Really sad. Was a go to place and something we looked forward to in the past.

The surly guy behind the counter in the morning, who said that he was the cashier, baker, and cook, put me off ordering anything with his unpleasant demeanor. Which is too bad, because according to a menu located in our hotel room, this place bakes bread, and we were trying to get some bread to make lunches with.

Favorite bakery place to go when I'm in Jemez. Not only do they have great baked goods, they make pizza, sandwiches, soups, and their coffee is good too. Dogs, kids, and family friendly. The owner is a very nice man and his staff are just as nice as he is. You can tell that he cares about his place because of the hardwork through the cleaniness of his place, bathrooms are spotless, warm in the winter, and perfect in the summertime. I always make it a point to stop there.

Wow! I'm addicted. I wish I'd discovered them earlier in the summer, as I'm staying here as a summer hire with the USFS. The food at Hwy 4 Coffee (often called Hwy 4 Cafe) is EXCELLENT. It's the best in town--as is their free WiFi. It's the fastest in town. The pizza and salads are good but the desserts are, by far, the best. Most people who go into the cafe order dessert and coffee...which is good stuff, too. It sure beats any coffee you can get anywhere else in Jemez Springs. And it ain't Starbucks either. :) My only wish is that they were open 12 hours a day EVERYday instead of just Fri and Sat. And like all places in Jemez, you'll pay for the convenience and imported ingredients.

What a great little gem. I've tried the latte (excellent), the breakfast burrito (huge) and the key lime tart (wonderful). Everyone in there (including the patrons) is friendly and welcoming. Definitely coming back!

Some decent pastries and coffee but the lunch menu seemed uninspired. The quiche was alright but the crust was sad... We ordered a roast beef panini that was edible. All the food was ok, just not very interesting or inspired.

This place has fantastic pastries! I feel like it has gone a bit downhill with the new management (what's with the crappy tourist tchochkes for sale? And where are all the delicious soups?? What happened to the cozy chair nook?) but it will always be a favorite spot for me in the Jemez. I highly recommend the apricot twist, the almond croissant, and the piñon tart, but everything else is good. The quiches are rich and heavy, and the breakfast burritos taste delicious. It is also a homey, relaxed atmosphere and the perfect place to while away a rainy afternoon with friends or getting work done on the laptop. A great and unusual find in the Jemez mountains.

Simply adorable little place, with decorative stencils on the painted tables, open windows letting in the breeze, and the cleanest restroom ever -- perfect for a casual bite on our way to hike up north of town. Even when we're in a rush we can't resist stopping for a deli sandwich to-go. The bread and cheese they use are oh so good! My kids recently tried their waffles for the first time and they were amazing as well. Can't wait to get back!

The tastiest food, unexpected gem. The kindest staff. We came back the next day for more. Try the perfect BLT for breakfast lunch or dinner. Gorgeous pastries. Sat on the sunny terrace with a view of the canyon . The Chef Zod came out to great us to offer even extra garnishing with our meals. These staff members are all alike, they care. This is not just a coffee house that happens to make food this is cornucopia of homespun honest mountain hospitality .

"The way this place right here works is, you pay first," said the generally jovial, tatted, disconnected counter person. She continued. "Some people come here and order, and then they go to sit down and so I have to tell them, you know, that they should pay first." Call this passive aggression or, more likely, just being indirectly direct, this was especially funny because we had, in fact, ordered and then went to sit down. So in a roundabout way she was saying that we were Some People. Note to management: she's great. This isn't a knock on her, per se. But I will note that when we entered, nobody said hello. We wandered around a bit before finding menus and a table, and still didn't get greeted, unless you consider the Some People bit a warm welcome. This is one of those places where it's genuinely tough to justify adding a tip. The coffee is self serve, with a note that says "one refill only". The food is delivered, but you gotta grab your own silverware and napkins. The napkins are noteworthy, too: there's another message on the dispenser that says "please only take one", and hey, why would you ever do otherwise? They have the absorbency of a doily (that's really generous, honestly). Food was generally good, but here's a note: don't place more than one order for waffles. They clearly have just one iron, meaning your waffles will emerge from the kitchen one-at-a-time. But they're worthy. My omelet was very good, I got an elk sausage/spinach/mushroom/Monterey jack composition, very nice, and I absolutely recommend the sausage. Not really anything healthy on the menu, BTW. The place felt way understaffed but then, good help can be hard to find in Jemez Springs. Final ironic note: as we were standing to leave, the girl at the counter started bussing the dishes (ah, that's why you should tip) and I noted that the tattoo on her arm said "In God's hands." Indeed, friends, at Highway 4 Coffee, you can leave it all up to Him.

Yum! We just flooded the place with 8 boy scouts and 3 adults. Everything was delicious. My breakfast burrito with red sauce was huge and top notch. My son loved his smoothie and waffles. It is a small place, so our service was a slow, but worth it. I would like to try their dinner.

This was a great experience and delicious food. I had the Panini with blt!!! And I had the delicious sweet potato fries. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is traveling in the area. It's a great ambience and we were able to sit outside on the patio with her dog. B and they even give you doggie biscuits for your doggie

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
